ANTIPOLO—The PBA is set to act on the status of NorthPort’s John Amores after being charged with attempted homicide following an alleged involvement in a shooting incident in Lumban, Laguna.

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said a decision will be made next week after Amores submitted a letter explaining his part in the incident that took place after a heated argument in a basketball game.

“I can’t give too many details since the case is already in court. That’s why we’re carefully studying the matter,” Marcial told reporters in Filipino during halftime of Saturday’s PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinal decider between Rain or Shine and Magnolia at Ynares Center here.

Marcial didn’t give much specifics, but hinted that a suspension could be an option depending on discussions with corporate secretary Ogie Narvasa and NorthPort team governor Erick Arejola.

Amores met with Marcial and PBA legal counsel Melvin Mendoza last Tuesday to explain his part in the incident that led to the sophomore forward and his brother spending time in jail before posting bail.

The controversy once again put Amores on the microscope, two years after being banned by the NCAA for going amok in a game for Jose Rizal University against College of St. Benilde.

Amores has yet to speak publicly on the incident, but did make indirect references in recent social media posts.
